I would not normally agree to take engagement photographs, but since they were for my amazing cousin…on a campus that I am very familiar with from my undergrad days…I agreed to take on this new challenge. Ashley just graduated from Iowa State University, while her fiancé Nate will graduate in the Spring of 2012. There are very few Cyclone alums or fans in our family, so it’s nice to add 2 more to the mix!

Ashley and Nate are excellent athletes, as well as top notch students!

Family Photos at Zojoji Temple & Shiba Koen

I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon at Zojoji Temple and Shiba Koen with Christian, Kristin, Joseph, and Gracie. Happy children, perfect weather and iconic locations in Tokyo make for wonderful memories!

The photo on the lower left is a common sight in Tokyo (notice the man walking 3 dogs). I am still amazed with how many people own dogs in the city!

The photo on the lower right was an unplanned, but very cute moment!

Family Photographs in Minato, Tokyo

I had a wonderful time with Kathryn, David, Penny, and Darcy one morning – as I ran around their house and documented memories of their family. Kathryn put together the perfect ‘recipe’ to create this fun and memorable experience for her family. Some of the key ingredients and events included…

Having a tea party with plenty of cookies and sugar
Running around the house with colorful streamers
Dressing up in a favorite costume
Dancing and jumping on the bed (and not getting in trouble!)
Reading a favorite book
Crashing in bed after the sugar high had worn off

What you can not see in the photos is that the bottom of Penny’s tea cup was filled with sugar. It didn’t take long for the sugar to kick in and the kids were bouncing off the walls!

Time to run around and burn some energy!

Darcy had the cutest dance (or maybe it was more of a wiggle?) that he enjoyed sharing with all of us. I couldn’t stop laughing at how adorable it was!! I wonder if Darcy will find these photos cute and adorable when he is a teenager?

This was inevitable….the sugar high eventually wore off and someone c-r-a-s-h-e-d…

It didn’t last long though! A quick clothing change…a favorite book…and the kids were back at it!

This was the perfect way to end the morning with a beautiful family…

Family Photos at Roppongi Hills

A few days before 2010 came to a close, I met up with Nancy, Huimin, Ken, and Mika at Roppongi Hills. It’s not every day that parents with grown children can get their entire family together, so I was happy to capture a few memories for this wonderful family! It was a brisk morning, but you would never know it with this great looking crew!!

It was almost January in Tokyo…and there were still a few colorful trees to be found!

Shichi-Go-San Photos at Baji Koen

I had a wonderful time with Amy, Tetsu, Noa, and Mia for Shichi-Go-San photos at Baji Koen Equestrian Park. We started the afternoon at the family’s beautiful home while Noa got ready. What a cutie!!

We then headed off to Baji Koen – an amazing park in the Setagaya area of Tokyo. I have been so spoiled over the past several years with the fall weather in Tokyo. While the Upper Midwest (U.S.) was dealing with freezing cold temperatures and snow…late November in Tokyo was a vast contrast with fall leaves and warm sun!

Beautiful mom…beautiful daughter…

Shichi-Go-San at Meiji Jingu

At the end of November, I spent part of the day with Amelia and Vivienne for their Shichi-Go-San ceremony. Shichi-Go-San ( 七五三 or 7-5-3) is an annual celebration for 3 and 7-year old girls and 3 and 5-year old boys. Children are often dressed in traditional Japanese attire and then receive a blessing at a local shrine. The parents will give thanks for the health of their children and offer prayers for their continued heath and happiness.

We started the day with the preparation time for the girls…

Anyone have a guess as to what Vivienne’s favorite color might be…?

I love how happy Amelia is after seeing herself in the mirror!

Next stop…Meiji Jingu!

Mom and Dad are already very busy keeping the eyes and cameras away from these two!

The entire crew….David, Maggie, Amelia, Vivienne, Aunt Beth, and Uncle Chris!!

Never get in the way of children after they have had a little sugar!!

A peaceful way to end a very special day!!

Family Photos at Komazawa Olympic Park :: Meguro, Tokyo

The fall season in Tokyo is wonderful! In late November, I met up with Hong, David and Miya at Komazawa Olympic Park. We enjoyed an afternoon of mild temperatures and beautiful fall leaves. It really doesn’t get any better than this!!

Hong recently started a business in Tokyo called, Ma Bella Beautiful Baby Designs. Ma Bella offers gifts, baby clothing, room decor, natural teething jewelry, and much more! Miya is showing off one of Ma Bella’s beautiful dresses!

Choca Muffin, the family’s 14-year old Chinese Sharpei, joined us for a few photos!

We captured a few memories of the beautiful family with their very first Christmas tree!

You can never be too old (or young) to enjoy a new ‘bike’!!
